Just As We Are
You have searched me, LORD, and you know me. Psalm 139:1
We are a mystery to each other, our doctor may know our bodies, our dentist may know our brushing and flossing habits and our therapist may know what drives our anxieties Our spouse of many years may be able to finish our sentences or read a look in our eye that says it’s time to leave a party. Our best friends know our best stories and what makes us laugh. These people know us—or do they?
This Bible verse reminds us that God knows everything about us. Jesus said God has numbered the hairs of our head. He knows what we’re doing this moment—and whether we are interested or if our mind is wandering.
We tend to hide parts of ourselves thinking, “If people know the real me, they will be disappointed in me.” God is the One who loves us no matter what our worst problem is our how many times we are not our best self.
It is so liberating that we do not have to pretend or struggle to be more than we are. Scripture tells us we can rest in God’s love, just as we are.
God, You know our heart, mind and every part of us. Help us to believe that Your love is not contigent on our perfection, but on Your perfect love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
