When "No" Hurts

And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19

ME: Jesus, I don’t like hearing that word. It causes me anxiety and worry.

JESUS: Well, consider the alternatives—failure and embarrassment.

ME: I guess You’re right.

JESUS: My beloved child, when I tell you “no” it is not to make your life miserable. It is to protect you from something that you are not able to see—yet. I am not punishing you, but instead, I am guiding you toward the plan of My choosing.

ME: Why does it hurt when things fall apart? There have been so many times when I was absolutely sure that my will and Your will were totally in sync and then the bottom falls out.

JESUS: You do not always seek My will before you jump into your own personal plans. You have a tendency to set yourself up for disappointment.

ME: I don’t mean to do that. Really, I don’t!

JESUS: I know we have had this discussion before, but before you make plans of any kind, I urge you to first consult with me. This requires quiet time in My Presence, digging into My Word and seeking godly counsel when needed. Be patient and wait for My responses.

ME: But You know me; I am not a very patient person.

JESUS: Yes, I know that and perhaps it’s the reason why I am bringing this to your attention again.

ME: My devotion time in the morning is very important and I guard it with my heart. Recently I’ve even added special evening time with You.

JESUS: I am so glad but what happens in between AM and PM? You don’t always stay connected with Me and that is where your plans run off the rails. Your creative engine goes roaring down the track. These are the times when My “NO” seems so harsh.

ME: Guilty, as charged.

JESUS: See, the point is, I miss you during the day when you are off doing your own thing. Truthfully, your life would be a lot easier if you didn’t disconnect with Me. I love so very much that I have to be honest and tell you these things.

ME: Thank You for loving me, but I wish Your caring hugs didn’t pinch so much.

JESUS: You’ll get used to them. Just remember, I love you.

I Could Sing of Your Love Forever
