A Pleasant Place to Be
For the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9
Cracker Barrel is one of my all-time places to eat. I am not sure if I like the shopping or the food best, but I am not alone as it is always packed. There is one thing that bothers me about going there and that is the noise level. It is impossible to have a quiet conversation but other guests still try (and sometimes you can get an earful). However, there is a certain atmosphere that is found there. It is a pleasant place to be.
Where is your pleasant place? Many will say the beach or mountains, with family or friends. But specifically, if you were in a real pickle, where would you want to go to think or unwind? Would you go alone or take someone with you. What makes a special or pleasant place?
So often superficial comments are made about going to our ‘happy place’ and never wanting to come back. Have we forgotten what Psalm 91 tells us? He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday. A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you. Why do we feel we need to go to some exotic or secluded place to find ourselves?
Today we are bombarded with all kinds of news, ads, and social media. Do we need such a place where we can go to feel protected from all the mind-clutter? It already exists. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid (John 14:27, ESV).
Pull out of the rat-race for a few moments. Shut your eyes! Focus on the love of Jesus and the promises that have been made. Each time you run to Him becomes easier. It’s not like you have to explain why you’re there—He already knows. Ask for His guidance and listen—and then obey!
Heavenly Father, help us to make You more real and to feel Your Presence in our lives. Thank You for Your promises to protect us and to always be with us. We thank You for Your peace. AMEN.
