The Greatest Commandment
Jesus said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.” This is the greatest and first commandment. Matthew 22:37-38
The great and first commandment is to love God. When we talk about love we can love our family, our friends, even chocolate ice cream. But the truth is that in loving the Lord, it's a total experience for all your senses. When you commit to love Him totally and completely there is a sense of peace and calm that comes from the love He returns. There's excitement in the relationships He brings into your life, exactly when you need them and for as long as you need them. There is confidence in knowing that He’ll be there for any need you may have. There is joy in knowing that you are able to respond to another’s need because He has given you discernment. There is a deep contentment in knowing that in loving others you are responding just as God would have you respond. All of these blessings flow out of loving God!
Lord God, by the power of the Holy Spirit, give us the will, courage and faith to love You as Jesus commands – the way He loves You. Amen.
