Signs of New Life

For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland. Isaiah 43:19

Today is my niece’s due date and our family is filled with excitement and anticipation! Many prayers are being said as we wait to welcome this new, precious life God has created. The birth of a baby always makes me reflect on the new, hope-filled things God is always doing. In my front yard, I saw three robins on Saturday morning and a friend mentioned that she loves that the time of daylight is getting longer. These are signs that a new season is coming, and winter will end.

There are times when we long for God to do something new in our lives. Many of my friends are battling illnesses, and long for healing. Others are struggling with relationship difficulties, while many are grieving the loss of a loved one. A friend once said during a painful time in her life, “I wish this prolonged period of winter in my heart, mind and soul would end. All I experience is the darkness and cold.”

My friend and I began praying together, For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? After several months she called to tell me that even though her situation hadn’t changed, her heart began to feel lighter, and she had started to look for the new things that God was already doing.

The coming of Jesus Christ to earth is the new thing Isaiah’s prophetic words point to. In Jesus we have the love, mercy, goodness, power and hope of God revealed. Jesus said He is making all things new. Through His life, death and resurrection, He offers us new, eternal life and abundant life daily with Him.

Lord Jesus, open our eyes, hearts and minds to perceive the new things You are doing in us and the world You love. Thank You for all the signs of new life and new seasons You give all around us! Amen.
