Your Loving Presence

Praise the Lord. Praise the Lord, my soul. I will praise the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live. Psalm 146:1-2 (NIV)

When I look at the beauty that surrounds me, I am deeply touched and I can feel His Presence. Singing praises with a grateful heart brings me closer to Him. I know that my praise and worship make Him smile! When I hurry through each day, there is a distinct possibility that I miss all the blessings, closeness, and gifts He offers. But then something happens—something catches my eye. I hear a comment, read a verse, and suddenly I’m drawn closer where He puts me back on the path. Sarah Young (Jesus Listens) shares a wonderful prayer, a great reminder for all of us.

*****

Gracious God,

You are so great, glorious, and compassionate that it’s impossible to praise or thank You too much. You inhabit the praises of Your people, and I delight in drawing near You through worship. Sometimes my adoration is a spontaneous overflow of Joy—in response to rich blessings or radiant beauty. At other times my praise is more disciplined and measured—an act of my will. I’m grateful that You dwell in both types of praise.

I’ve discovered that thankfulness is a wonderful way to enjoy Your Presence. A grateful heart has plenty of room for You. When I thank You for the many good gifts You bestow, I affirm that You are the One from whom all blessings flow. Help me to thank You also in the midst of adversity—trusting in Your goodness and sovereignty.

Please teach me how to fill up the spare moments of my life with praise and thanksgiving. This joyous discipline will enable me to live in the intimacy of Your loving Presence,

In Your praiseworthy Name, Jesus, AMEN
