Bible Studies for Grades 3-6

Continuing Christian Education

“Miss Michelle”, our 3rd/4th grade Kids Connect Leader shared this list of activities and conversations you can do at home to help reinforce what the kids have learned in her Kids Connect classroom. These topics are covered by Michelle throughout the school year in addition to the monthly curriculum bible stories and life application.

Practice Your Prayers: Keep working to memorize the following prayers

  1. The Lord’s Prayer – We recite the ‘standard’ version that is prayed at the 10:45 service.

  2. The Apostles Creed – We just started this in the new year.

  3. The Nicene Creed – We haven’t gotten to this yet, this is the typical creed.

Review the 10 Commandments: Michelle says… When we review the commandments, I ask them if they understand what each commandment means. If they need an explanation on a certain commandment, I keep the explanation in line with their maturity and try to explain it the way I would explain it to my 9 year old daughter.

Practice reading and pronouncing the Books of the Bible: They are getting SO good at this! They know how to pronounce a lot of the books, and a lot of the kids know the order too. Try asking them if they know what book is in the Old Testament versus the New Testament. We also sing the books of the Bible. If they want to sing it, I recommend opening up to the Table of Contents. The song is sung in order of the books, starting with Genesis and goes all the way to Revelation. I am working on getting the music, but they should know the tune by heart.

Consider reading some poems in Psalms: There are so many uplifting poems in the book of Psalms. Just open the middle of your Bible; Psalms is almost in the very middle of the Bible. Maybe something will speak to their feelings of the day. Special focus on Psalm 118:24 - This is the day that the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it.

Highs and Lows: Ask the kids to share their highs/lows from the day. Maybe they learned a new topic or completed an assignment that was tricky.

Journaling: They can keep a little notebook of their daily adventures and they can share when we regroup again. I look forward to hearing their stories when we get back together. I’d like to hear what they are doing to pass the time and if they are getting along with their parents / siblings. I have no doubt they are behaving and being so good! (TIP: Feel free to comment on our Facebook post, share pictures or videos. Say hello!")

Keep up with Daily Prayers: Ask the kids if they can think of ways they can pray for people during this time or express ways that they feel blessed for what they have.

  • Pray for the people who are sick with the virus

  • Pray for Doctors and nurses, medical staff that are caring for the sick

  • Pray for Pastor Chris, Miss Bobbie & Miss Janet

  • Thank you for reminding us that ‘God is with us’ and ‘This too shall pass’

  • Pray for Moms and Dads who are managing a new schedule for their families

  • Pray for people who don’t have enough food, the right shelter, etc.

Remind them how loved and fabulous they are – and so many people at St. James think they are bright, loving and super kind – and Miss Michelle and the entire Kids Connect team is praying for them and hoping they stay safe and healthy!
