Grateful, Humbled, Blessed... Even in Crisis

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (NIV) says: Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

I know we are in crisis. I read about it constantly. My news feeds are full of information about the worldwide response to COVID-19, the state of the DOW and the political climate. Our family routines have been halted and altered. My friends are mourning the loss of opportunities that were planned for the coming weeks and months. Everything we know is less certain and unstable. And yet…

My town is quieter than usual. The busy street behind my house barely buzzes with cars and trucks. The sun is shining, the birds are chirping. There are families walking and riding bikes on sidewalks. Our local businesses are finding adaptable ways to continue to operate through curbside pickups and online orders. Social networking sights are creating new ways to connect with authors, illustrators, teachers and each other. It makes my heart sing! I will not worry, but in all things, give thanks.

  • Thank you to all of the parents who are teachers/administrators. You have been called to provide ways to keep our kids minds engaged, and that is probably keeping many of you from focusing on your own families. Thank you for sacrificing your time for all of us.

  • Thank you to all of our first responders and healthcare providers for continuing to keep our communities safe, healthy and cared for despite the risk it imposes on you.

  • Thank you to all of our "essential business" employees. Whether you are employed in financial, research, energy, transportation or essential retail, our sequestered situation would not be nearly as comfortable without your tireless support.

  • Thank you parents and grandparents for stepping in to your full-time childcare roles.

  • Thank you to those of you reaching out in your community to see who else needs support.

  • Please join me in this prayer, share it with your children who need to know the importance of talking to God at all times:

Dear God,

Thank you for your amazing power and work in our lives. Thank you for your goodness and for your blessings over us. Thank you that you are able to bring hope through even the toughest of times, strengthening us for your purposes. Thank you for your great love and care. Thank you for your mercy and grace. Thank you that you are always with us and will never leave us. Thank you for your incredible sacrifice so that we might have freedom and life. Forgive us for when we don't thank you enough, for who you are, for all that you do, for all that you've given. Help us to set our eyes and our hearts on you with a fresh heart. Renew our spirits, fill us with your peace and joy. We love you and we need you, this day and every day. We give you praise and thanks, for You alone are worthy!

In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Peace be with you my friends! — Janet
